Holy Hilarity Sunday (also known as Holy Humor Sunday and Bright Sunday = the Sunday after Easter) has a long history. Many Orthodox churches celebrated the Sunday after Easter with jokes, laughs and parties. The “joke” was on Satan since God had raised Jesus from the dead. Now many denominations have joined the fun. Early Christian writers saw the humor in what God has done. Risus Paschalis = God’s laugh, and many traditions abound, some celebrated on Easter Monday, but most on the Sunday following the Resurrection of Our Lord. Today we join the mirth – celebrate!
